This is one of those terms that has been thrown around but is never really explained. My take on this is that they don't want you to understand it. If you understood it most of you would have no need for it. I think they, correctly, bet on the average consumer thinking "Oh it's new, it must be better", and in a way yes it is better. The gist of it is that if you do things like watch TV, download stuff or listen to the radio on your phone, it is better. IF you are not in this category then it really doesn't effect you all that much. The other thing to note is that this is still a developing technology, so read into this that it still has some snafus, such as you may have bought a 3G phone but don't live in a place where you have access to a 3G network. So just because you see words like "hot" "new" "fast", don't go spending a ton of money on it, because chances are your just paying for a phrase.
